01. Overview
The core international (ISO/IEC/IEEE) testing standards have now been available for over 10 years and have recently been improved and updated as second editions. These mature standards provide a stable foundation for professional testers. The ISO 29119 Certified Tester course provides attendees with a broad understanding of the scope, requirements and guidelines provided by these testing standards. The course covers those topics which are essential knowledge for a test professional using the ISO/IEC/IEEE 29119 software testing standards.
After successfully completing the course, delegates should be able to:
- Understand the concepts underlying the set of ISO/IEC/IEEE 29119 standards
- Contribute to test planning following the ISO/IEC/IEEE 29119-2 standard
- Create and review documents following the ISO/IEC/IEEE 29119-3 standard
- Assist with the ongoing test management of a project following the ISO/IEC/IEEE 29119-2 standard
- Contribute to test completion activities following the ISO/IEC/IEEE 29119-2 standard
- Design test cases following the ISO/IEC/IEEE 29119-4 standard
- Set-up and perform dynamic testing and create incident reports following the ISO/IEC/IEEE 29119-2 standard
This course initially explains the context and need for these software testing standards before providing attendees with an overview of what the standards cover. This includes test processes at the organizational, management and dynamic test levels, test design techniques, and the full set of test documentation templates. The course provides attendees with a step-by-step guide and hands-on practice on how to apply the standards on a typical project using the required risk-based testing approach. Finally, the course considers how the standards can be tailored for use on projects using different life cycles (e.g. V, waterfall, agile), different approaches (e.g. exploratory testing) and different levels of criticality.
02. Training expectation
This course is presented using a mix of slides and discussions interspersed with hands-on practical exercises. Each candidate is provided with a full set of the teaching material and an e-book specifically written to support the course that includes coverage of all the test processes, guidelines on ISO 29119 test documentation, examples of using the test design techniques, as well as a full example of the use of the standards on a typical online system. To help prepare candidates for the examination, revision questions are provided for each of the learning objectives and a separate full sample paper (with answers) is available for exam practice.
03. Audience
This course is aimed at test professionals who want to ensure they are fully aware of best industry practice as defined by the ISO 29119 standards, what is required to comply with these standards, and how to use them on a real project. This includes people in roles such as test managers, test leads, test analysts, test engineers and test consultants. A working knowledge of software testing is assumed. NOTE: Attendees do NOT need to bring their own computer.
